Appointments

The doctor will see you in the surgery by appointment.

In line with national practice, for the majority of patients these will be an initial telephone call with an offer of a face to face appointment if clinically appropriate or agreed between the GP and the patient.

Our appointment system is intended to reduce the time you have to wait and your cooperation is essential to make the system work.

The doctors consult between the hours of 8.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.

The actual surgery times vary with the doctor.

Our receptionists will help you to make your appointment. They may have to ask you to give them some information to ensure that you are given an appropriate appointment and that the surgeries run smoothly. All information is treated with strict confidentiality. Please check in with the touch screen check-in system or in cases of difficulty or query with a receptionist when you arrive for your appointment. The doctors try to keep to time, but some patients’ problems will inevitably take more time than others. Please be sympathetic if you can and come prepared for a short wait.

Appointments can be made either by calling in at the surgery or by telephoning 0118 933 2436 in addition you may now request an appointment on line by clicking on the "request an appointment" box on the home page (please note you will need to register first at reception to enable this function).

The surgery has an auto attendant telephone system. Please listen carefully to the options. If you have a life threatening medical emergency press 1 otherwise please continue to listen for the option required, or hold for your call to be answered by a receptionist.

Routine Pre Bookable Appointments

These appointments (both F2F and telephone) can usually be booked up to one month ahead. Please make your appointment at the earliest opportunity, specifying the doctor and the date preferred, if any. If you feel you need a longer appointment than usual, please let the receptionist know and we will try and make provision for this. If you are unable to attend for your appointment, please always let us know at the earliest opportunity so that we can offer the appointment to someone else. 

Urgent Appointments

URGENT CASES WILL BE SEEN THE SAME DAY. Some appointments are reserved for patients who need to be seen urgently. Requests for urgent appointments are assessed by the Doctors who will either try to deal with the problem immediately over the phone, ask you to come in that day for an 'on the day' appointment or request you make a routine appointment. This system is run to assess URGENT cases and the Doctor will try to call you back within an hour to discuss the case and agree a review appointment. If you are asked to come in for an 'on the day' appointment you will be given an appointment time.

Extended Hours

Home Visits

These will be made by the doctors when there is a genuine inability to get to the surgery.

PLEASE TELEPHONE WITH REQUESTS BY 10.00am except in an emergency.

Our secretaries will take details and inform the doctor of your request. The patient’s usual doctor will visit whenever possible.

Emergencies

Between 8.00a.m. and 6.30p.m. urgent requests will be given prompt attention and a doctor will be informed. If at all possible, the doctor you normally see will try to attend, but often the doctor on duty will visit.

Test Results

All results are reviewed by the requesting GP (or, in their absence, a nominated covering GP).

If any direct action is required as a result of the findings, the surgery will contact you.

Patients who wish to check whether their results have been received are welcome to contact the surgery between 2.00pm and 3.00pm, Monday to Friday (please allow 5 working days from date of test).

Online Services

Patients can access a range of online services, including booking appointments and ordering repeat prescriptions, using either Patient Services or the NHS App.

Register for Patient Services

To register for online appointment booking and repeat prescription requests through Patient Services, please:

1. Visit the surgery and complete a Patient Services Appointment & Repeat Prescription Registration Form.
2. Bring a valid photo ID as proof of identification.
3. Once your registration has been processed, you will receive an email from Patient Services containing your login details.

Register for the NHS App

The NHS App allows you to access a range of NHS services from your smartphone or tablet, including booking appointments, ordering repeat prescriptions, viewing test results, and accessing your medical record (where available).

To register:

1. Download the NHS App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Create an NHS login using your email address and mobile phone number.
3. Verify your email address and mobile number using the security codes sent to you.
4. Prove your identity. Most patients can do this using a valid photo ID (such as a passport or driving licence) and a facial recognition check within the app.
5. Once your identity has been verified, you will have full access to available online services.

If you do not have suitable photo ID, alternative methods of verification may be available. Please contact the surgery for further advice.

When booking a Routine GP Telephone Appointment:

- if the appointment is in the morning the GP will call sometime between 8.30am and 1pm

- if the appointment is in the afternoon the GP will call sometime between 1pm and 6.30pm

Routine GP Appointments should not be used to book Medicals, please call the Surgery on 0118 9332436 and speak to a member of our Reception team

If booking a 6 week baby check, two consecutive appointments are required, one for mother and one for baby.  Please call the Surgery on 0118 9332436 and speak to a member of our Reception team, to make the double appointment.
